documentaries

hi!
I live in Italy and have become involved in a festival for eco- sustainability. I would love to raise the question of overfishing in this country, where it should be comon knowledge that the european fishing industry is distroying the oceans - which is why countries like Italy is full of Senegalese illigal immigrants... I'd like to introduce the topic with a film though, does anyone know of any good and exhaustive documentary on this subject? (preferably a copyrighted regular film, not a half-hour youtube post that may os may not work on the day of the festival...) Does anyone have other ideas for me?
thanx

Re: documentaries

Hey,

There are a number of documentaries and movies on overfishing and emptying our oceans. Here is a top ten list of best ocean and or overfishing documentaries (in no particular order) ;-)

  • Sandgrains, about overfishing in the Cape Verdi's @ http://sandgrains.matchboxmedia.org/index.php
  • End of the Line @ http://endoftheline.com/film
  • Empty Oceans, Empty Nets @ http://www.pbs.org/emptyoceans/
  • Farming the seas @ http://www.pbs.org/emptyoceans/
  • Darwins Nightmare @ http://www.darwinsnightmare.com/

What's the festival called?

Re: documentaries

thanx for the links! I knew about End of the Line, but the rest are new to me! I'll have a look right away, the festival is called ARTetica, it'll be the second edition this year, but we're still in a growing fase, so we might not have funding for international movies, but we'll definitely get there!

Re: documentaries

Your question motivated me to finally (the page was almost done for over a year...) put a page with a number of documentaries and movies on fisheries and overfishing issues online at http://overfishing.org/pages/Documentaries_about_overfish.php

If you happen to find any other good ones (including short videos, there must be more good ones) I'd be grateful if you can link them here so I can include them.
